Looking Beyond

We are all looking for something--peace, friendship, love, companionship--the list is long. But what should we be looking for? Is our view too microscopic, that is, can we not see the forest because we are focusing on individual trees? I know mine is. Sometimes I can't see past the end of the present day. So how can we broaden our view? Consider some of these thoughts.
1. When a loved one is gone on a trip, we look forward to their return. Are we looking forward to being being in His presence when He returns? Titus 2:13
2. We all desire permanence, something that will last. Nothing we build or strive for does or will last in this world. Abraham looked for descendants, Moses looked for a country, and we, we have a kingdom which cannot be shaken. Hebrews 11-12
3. Finally, at the end of the day, at the end of our lives we usually want one thing, rest. Rest for the troubles and problems, rest from the hard work and responsibilities, rest for our weary souls in our fight against sin, and there is a great rest available to all of us now and in the future.

Think about these things and your view will become as large as your faith.

Looking past regrets

We all have regrets over many things. Thoughts we thought and shouldn't have, actions we could have done but didn't. Loved ones we should have loved better, folks we should have befriended but neglected. The list is endless, and the guilt is long but unless we want to wallow in the mud and miss life, we, I need to admit them and forgive myself and realize that God has forgiven me in Christ, tell myself to start looking past the regrets and stop wasting time on them.
So why these thoughts now? As I get older I find myself reliving the past. Personal history is a good thing if it leads one to learn, but not if we morbidly dwell there. So less looking back and more looking forward. Least that's what I want to do.
